Distraction and The Ego (and “Responsibility”)

If Ego were a super villian, one of its many powers would be Distraction. The ol’ Smoke and Mirrors trick; the Art of believing in our own lie. The result: becoming our own lie. Then you look around at your life and think, Something’s not right.

Ego says, “Look over here, while I whisper sweet nonsense in your ear, and then I shall dissappear, having planted in you the seeds of fear. Good luck!”

You’ve created all this catastrophe, but you don’t really remember doing it, and you definitely can’t believe that you would ever have created something so negative. This certainly can not be your fault.

But I have great news for you–it is all your fault. Isn’t that fantastic?!

If it’s all your fault, then you get to fix it. Don’t let Ego distract you from what you know you should be thinking, feeling, and how you should be behaving. Don’t let Ego distract you from the reality right in front of you, and definitely don’t allow Ego to distract you from whose fault it is. Sometimes, the more objectively “not-your-fault” it seems, the more you should really be digging deeper to find what’s really going on behind the Curtains.

And right as you are about to see something for what it is, Ego will at last try to convince you that taking sudden responsibility for your life is the same as admitting that you haven’t been doing it all along; you’ve been doing some wrong, and Ego tells you that this is the most horrible thing you could ever find out about yourself. So then, in defiance, you say, “I will NOT change! Changing would imply that I need to change in the first place, and I certainly am not the one that needs to change! And to prove it, I won’t change at all. So there.”

Don’t fall for it! This is nothing more than a simple distraction from the Truth that it is okay to take responsibility for your life. You are not a victim.  You are not a perpetrator. Admitting you were wrong, taking responsibility, seeking forgiveness and personal growth are powerful, God-like experiences that will both humble you and empower you. Please keep in mind that Responsibility has 3 steps: Admitting that you have messed up; Forgiveness of yourself, and requesting forgiveness from others; and, Becoming your new self completely.

This 3rd step is key; how can you change your life if you don’t change your life? You know what I’m sayin’?

Simply shine your light of consciousness on your Ego self, and reveal the grand trickster for what he is. Ahh, good game, my friend. This was fun, but I’m gonna take my ball and go Home now.

With Love, Light, and certainly an infinite amount of Laughter,

The Jester
